| Track Cleaner |
|
|
The Aztec track cleaner car works great. It has (from right to left) a magnet to pick up stray metal pieces, three wipers, and a roller that
sits at a slight angle to the track. The middle of the three wipers can be made wet with a cleaner solution. In that case the first wiper takes
off the dust from the railheads, the second applies the liquid, and the third dries the railhead. I have found that I don't like using liquid
cleaners. A wet railhead is like a magnet for dust. I run the car behind a locomotive to do some dry-cleaning, and use lap pads (see my
Track Cleaning article) to do the serious track cleaning.

Coupler Conversion
I replaced the original body-mounted N-scale couplers with Micro-Trains Z-scale couplers. The mounting hole for the coupler screw is too far
back to be of use for the Z-scale coupler. I tried hand-drilling into the body of the car, but the material is too hard. I wound up attaching
the new couplers with some 5-minute epoxy.
