Pennsylvania Railroad #9661

The Pennsylvania Railroad received F7's from EMD starting in March 1949. The last ones arrived in September 1952, for a total of 199 units. These engines only received a single stripe and were never used for passenger service (hence the Brunswick Green paint color), except for occasionally helper service. The Fallen Flags web site is from where I got the prototype photo of #9689 shown here. The "Pennsylvania Railroad Diesel Locomotive Pictorial Volume Six - EMD and Alco Freight Cab Units" (2001, Withers Publishing, ISBN 1-881411-32-X, pp 383-431) is an excellent reference for this locomotive. A photo of #9778 can be found on page 396 of "The History of North American Rail" (ISBN 0785814558, Chartwell Books, Inc., 2002).

I bought two A's and one B unit of these Kato F7's at a GATS show. They were not new. I have not done anything to them, but the previous owner installed the PRR trainphone antennae and a crew, as shown in the photo below.
