It is time to expand the track on the layout. A new factory is being built, and it needs our railroad's services. I decided to use the laminated spline
track approach again, only this time with spacers. It is a different technique, and I just wanted to try it out.
In the first photo on the left (below) the 65-inch section starts off as two 1/4" strips of plywood (cut length-wise). The first piece on the workbench
is held in the desired shape with clamps.
The middle photo shows that the two long pieces of wood are held apart by small filler pieces (shown on the left here). This makes the subroadbed about
3/4" wide, which is sufficient for N-scale.
The photo on the right shows the finished product. It was a very simple process. There is a bit of curvature in the piece, but I didn't want it to be
perfectly straight.
I placed standard N-scale cork roadbed material on the subroadbed. All gluing was done with yellow carpenter's glue. The cork sticks out (width-wise) a bit,
which will help blend the scenery under it later on.
