Bear Creek & Eastern - June 24th, 2007

Scenery, is the word of the day. Since the last update I have completed the cardboard strips installation. The next photo shows where I was planning to place two structures along the back track. The cardboard strips in that area were woving as flat as possible.

The cardboard strips were covered with left-over plaster cloth and newspaper.

After several days of applying the "ground goop" (see my Scenery Base article for more info), covering the area with a good first layer of ground cover, and installating the buildings that will occupy this area, this is the current look of the town of Bear Creek.

Here's a close-up of the back corner of Woods Furniture Co. The edges of the diorama are already somewhat covered with scenery, but more will come. The diorama remains removable.

The Woods Furniture Co. and one of the other line-side industries have black-top roads and parking areas. I created those using a spackle mix. I followed the idea and methods described on a friend's web site. The spackle creates a real smooth surface (something not possible with Sculptamold).

I then painted the edges with Poly Scale's Dirt. The paint was merged into the native "soil" of the Woods Furniture diorama, which represents a non-paved surface.

I then painted the black-top using Floquil's Weathered Black. Again, attempting to blend in the end of the paved road with the non-paved area of the diorama. I also filled-in the remaining unscenicked area around the road and covered it with green ground foam. Bushes, shrubs, and trees will follow later.
