Today I finished ballasting the space where I had previously laid the ties. The first photo shows the new track off of the existing mainline. In the
foreground is the curved turnout and the split to the upper and lower level.
This photo shows the lower level track on the left-hand side of the layout. I had previously glued cork subroadbed all over the plywood base. After the ties
were down, I cut the subroadbed profile around the track shown in the foreground here, all the way up to the turnout. The remainder of the surface will
most likely be covered with styrene, so there was no need to cut a profile. Some of the cork is still visible in the foreground, because that part will
eventually become covered with scenery, so I just left it there.
