We spent Christmas, 2007 in Virginia. We spent a few hours at the Fairfax Station. It is a
small station, but it has a lot of history, wonderful volunteers, and a nice gift shop. Our tour guide opened up the caboose despite the steady downpour
of rain (which is why I only have a few photos). Check out their web site, because they have model railroad layouts set up almost every month.
This shows the front of the museum, which is the side of the station. The entrance is to the right near the back. The caboose is visible on the left.
Here's a better view of the caboose.
The interior of the caboose is in good shape. The museum has a permanent N-scale layout, which they store in the caboose. It is a nice basic layout. It was
not electrically hooked up when we were there.
