Structures - Dog Houses

The photo on the right shows the GCLaser dog houses kit. The plan is to include at least one of these with a residential home structure. The parts are provided in a laser-cut wooden fret. Additional paper sheets are included for the roof shingles. All parts were there. The instructions are very sparse; merely an exploded diagram of the parts. The kit provides two dog houses.

Ria built these two dog houses in one afternoon. The photo below shows the finished products. The one on the left is unpainted, while the one on the right is. They measure a scale 3-1/2 by 3-1/2 by 5 scale feet. A small name plate with the name "Fido" is included.

Ria's opinion was that installing the short ends to the base first was much easier than following the instruction's diagram order. Also, the structure itself goes together well due to the tab-and-slot method of the parts, but the roof shingles were a challenge. It took longer to do the roof than the building itself. Water-thinned Poly Scale paint was used on the one model and it worked well.

The shingles for the roof line were difficult to figure out and work. It just didn't look very good when they were installed. Ria took them off and simply installed a single strip of the paper. That looks better and doesn't draw attention to itself.
