Web Site Maintenance

Fourth Ray Software maintains not only our own web site, but we also have a number of clients for whom we have created and continue to maintain web sites. This has revealed to us a couple of needs that webmasters have in maintaining their web site or web sites that are not necessarily provided with their normal web page editing software.

Once the initial excitement of a brand-new web site design has come and gone, the chore of maintaining the site sets in. Minor, and sometimes major, changes are made fairly often to all but the most static of web sites. Text is re-written, images are moved around, new content is added, files are deleted or renamed, and external links come and go. If you only maintain one small web site, this is all very manageable. But once you start having more than a couple of clients, or you maintain a number of web sites for your own personal interests, these chores start to require some significant time.

Our products, FRSLinkCheck™ and FRSWebSpell™, were built out of our own need to efficiently maintain a large number of web sites. It is not our intent to write yet another HTML editor application. However, once a site has been developed, our tools can help you make sure your site presents a professional image. Beside the basic design and flow of a site, making sure links are working and misspelled words are fixed are two very important features of a professional web site.

Web Site Types

Both of our webmaster software applications can be used with any type of web site. They can be used against HTML files used for a public web site, private Intranet, online documentation sites, etc. Both applications present the concept of web site projects, where each project represents a web site. You can maintain all of your web site projects, and each will be verified.

Over time you can build quite a collection of those links. The browsers don't offer a good way to verify that all those links still work.
